Guide to linking continuing education and self-assessment

Guide 8: Linking Continuing Education and Self-Assessment is a comprehensive resource offered by RECLA to strengthen the management of university continuing education.

This document is the result of a collaborative effort initiated in 2021, focused on the self-assessment and continuous improvement of continuing education units. Through a detailed process that includes stakeholder identification and management, and impact measurement, the guide provides essential and desirable recommendations to ensure the quality and relevance of continuing education programs.

Criterion I

Linking the continuing education unit with its stakeholders

The sustainability of any continuing education unit depends on its ability to meet the needs of its key stakeholders. This criterion emphasizes identifying and managing relationships with individual participants, client organizations, and other relevant internal and external actors. The guide offers recommendations for recognizing and addressing their needs, thereby ensuring the relevance and continuity of educational programs.

Criterion II

Comprehensive university linkage model

This criterion focuses on the continuing education unit's contribution to a comprehensive engagement model with organizations. It seeks to address needs that include talent development, employability, research, consulting, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The guide suggests practices for effectively integrating continuing education into the university's broader mission.

Criterion III

Impact measurement

Measuring the impact of continuing education programs is crucial for evaluating their effectiveness. This criterion addresses the importance of measuring outcomes, including the transfer of learning and its practical application, as well as the effects on the organization and the environment. The guide provides recommendations for implementing measurement systems that reflect the true value of continuing education.
