When we talk about continuing education, the conversation often focuses on programs, instructors, or new trends. But there's an aspect that often goes unnoticed but ends up being crucial: academic management.
How do you measure the impact of a unit? How clear are its processes? Is the student experience truly supported by agile and reliable systems? Does the information generated by programs translate into improvement decisions? These were some of the questions that arose during our workshop "Academic Area Management," a space led by Celso Flores Lozada, in which continuing education directors from RECLA partner universities shared experiences, challenges, and ways to strengthen management from a more strategic perspective.
The workshop revolved around three criteria that are fundamental for any continuing education unit today: the definition of objectives and indicators, the management of academic processes—such as registration, certifications and student follow-up—and the construction of continuous improvement mechanisms that allow decisions to be made with information and not just perceptions.
One thing that became clear is that good academic management is not just about organizing processes; it also involves building trust, ensuring quality, facilitating teamwork, and providing a better experience for those participating in each program.
Spaces like these are a demonstration of what we value most at RECLA: learning from the experiences of other institutions and discovering that many of the challenges we face are shared.
